DMB Beta 1
This is the first truly user-ready version of DMB to leave my hard drive! In the future, this kind of post will look more like a change log. But since pretty much everybody who downloads this is going to be using it for the first time, I figure I'll give some background on why I built it!
The Story Thus Far...
Do you use one of the many other tools pitched as "the best DM notes app" and just been tired of linking docs together? Or thinking that doing so takes too much work?
Have you ever been writing your next session, and you know that there's a character from way back, or an item you've referenced before, but you just can't find your notes?
Or worse, have you been IN A SESSION, and you mention a character that your players go "Wait, who was that again?" and suddenly, you can't find your notes on that character?
That was the reason I built DMB.
How DMB Helps
DMB is designed from the ground up around the way a DM uses notes. Write uninterrupted, with styling and formatting support, and watch your plain text magically transform into an interconnected set of documents, linked together for your convenience.
Build dynamic collections so you can always scroll through related content.
Decide for yourself how to structure your notes - DMB gives you powerful tools but doesn't care much how you use them.
The Present, and The Future
Right now, I'm looking for early testers. The app is free to use, and I will be responding to bug reports in the comments of the app page on itch.io. I don't know how often I'll publish updates, but you can expect that I want to make the current version work as well as I can (this means fixing bugs, but not necessarily adding features).
I have lots of things I can add to this if people like it. At the moment, it does most of what I need day to day as a DM. If people like this and want me to work on it more, I'll probably move to a paid model of some sort (I haven't decided how this will work yet) and start on the long list of features I have in my head.
Some things that could be added in the future:
- Searching for Notes
- Spatial Collections (Imagine if your Character Notes showed up on a Map where they are in the world)
- Audio Components
- Import/Export for Binders
- Compound Collection Rules (Being able to create a collection of multiple tag kinds)
- etc.
So let me know what you think! I'm excited to see what you all make of this little project of mine!
- Peter
Keep in mind I'm doing this in my free time, for free at the moment - I will respond at my own pace and I will update the app when I think it's ready. Be kind.
